Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy Sponsors National Managed Care Roundtable For Industry Executive Advisory Board

29 May 08

Swartz Creek, MI, May 29, 2008 – Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy, a leader in specialty pharmacy services, disease management (DM) and drug therapy management (DTM) announced today that their specialty pharmacy was one of 3 sponsors of the National Managed Care Roundtable (NMCRT) held this month in Dallas, Texas. This forum brought 30 industry executives from top consulting and managed care organizations together to review and improve on the current offerings and directions of specialty pharmacy and other critical business segments.

“With our advisors high in the managed care hierarchy, their opinions carry weight in their organizations and within the managed care marketplace,” stated Jim Smeeding, President of NMCRT. “I believe that Diplomat offered services that go above and beyond the usual expectations for a specialty pharmacy.”

“Managed Care executives provided us with invaluable insights at the meeting. Their reviews will benefit us greatly as we continue to expand Diplomat on a national level,” stated Phil Hagerman, President and CEO of Diplomat. “Consistent messages from the group included: the importance of patient care outcome reporting, the need for increased price transparency, the benefits of shared risk for disease management, and the need to maintain a high level of service to patients on specialty medications.”

“The feedback from managed care organizations confirmed that specialty pharmacy is still a high priority within the pharmacy and medical benefits,” stated Dr. Atheer Kaddis, Diplomat’s Vice President of Managed Markets. “It also confirmed to us that there are very few, if any, successful care management models addressing kidney disease today. The programs presented by Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy to address specialty pharmacy and kidney disease were well received by managed care organizations and we are excited about future potential opportunities to work with managed care organizations in these priority areas.”

Smeeding added that, “Diplomat was very well received by our advisors – clearly there is an unmet need for managing these high cost, high acuity patients that Diplomat services. The feedback from our advisors should allow Diplomat to continue to expand their offerings with greater insights into what the marketplace demands and desires.”
