Clinical Article Now Available: The Diagnosis and Management of von Willebrand Disease

Von Willebrand disease (VWD) is the most common inherited bleeding disorder affecting between 1-3% of the general population. VWD is caused by a decrease in the amount of or an abnormal shape of the von Willebrand factor (VWF), a protein in the blood that causes platelet adhesion and also serves as a carrier protein for factor VIII. VWD varies in severity; mild forms of the disease may never be detected while severe forms of VWD require intravenous infusions of clotting factor that contain VWF.

Diplomat's Hetty Lima, R.Ph., FASHP, recently published an article titled The Diagnosis and Management of von Willebrand Disease for INFUSION, the bimonthly journal of the National Home Infusion Association.
